About This Crystal
Tumbled, polished smooth specimen displaying a striking high-contrast pattern of opaque white, gray, and dark black or charcoal stripes and veining. The luster is vitreous to waxy due to the tumbling and polishing process.
Physical Characteristics
Colors include white, gray, and black. Streak is white. Cleavage is none due to microcrystalline structure. Fracture is conchoidal to uneven. Specific gravity is approximately 2.58 to 2.91. Tenacity is brittle. Non-magnetic and generally unreactive to UV light.
Optical Properties
Singly refractive (microcrystalline aggregates appear as aggregate under polariscope), isotropic to anomalous aggregate interference figures. Birefringence is very low. Pleochroism is absent.
