Blue Goldstone
Man-made Aventurine Glass (Goldstone) · Decorative Stone / Man-made Simulant

Crystal System
Amorphous (Non-crystalline glass structure); typically encountered as tumbled stones, beads, or cabochons.
Mineral Group
Synthetic Silicates (Glass-based)
Chemical Formula
SiO2 (base glass) + Cu, Co, or Mn (metallic inclusions)
Formation Process
Industrial/Man-made; created by melting silica, copper oxides, and other metallic salts at high temperatures, followed by slow cooling to allow metallic crystals to precipitate in a vacuum.
About This Crystal
A deep midnight-blue to black opaque glass containing thousands of tiny, highly reflective metallic specks. The surface is smooth and vitreous (glassy) with a starry, glittering appearance.
Physical Characteristics
Color: Dark blue to black with silver/blue sparkles; Streak: White; Cleavage: None; Fracture: Conchoidal; Specific Gravity: 2.5-2.8; Luster: Vitreous to metallic.
Optical Properties
Aventurescence (optical glittering effect caused by tiny metallic inclusions reflecting light); Singly refractive; Refractive Index: 1.50 - 1.55.
Hardness & Durability
Origin Region
Global production; originally developed in 17th-century Venice (Murano), Italy. Produced in low-oxygen kilns.
Hardness & Durability
Mohs Hardness: 5.5 - 6 (similar to window glass). Brittle tenacity; prone to scratching and chipping if handled roughly.
Care & Maintenance
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth; avoid ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals. Store separately to prevent scratches from harder stones like quartz.
Rarity & Value
Common; very affordable. Value is based on the quality of the 'sparkle' distribution and polish rather than geological rarity.
Special Characteristics
Strong aventurescence mimicking a night sky. Blue goldstone specifically uses cobalt or manganese to achieve its deep blue hue, as opposed to the copper-red of classic goldstone.
Lore & History
Legend attributes its invention to Italian monks attempting alchemy. In modern crystal healing, it is often called the 'Stone of Ambition' and associated with the Throat Chakra, though it is not a natural mineral.
