About This Crystal

A rough, unpolished mineral specimen showing a white to milky quartz matrix with grayish-blue bands and distinct brownish-yellow iron oxide (limonite/goethite) staining along fractures and surfaces. The transparency ranges from translucent to opaque, with a vitreous to greasy luster on fractured faces.

Physical Characteristics

Color includes white, gray, and yellowish-brown. Streak is white. Cleavage is absent, fracture is conchoidal to uneven. Specific gravity is approximately 2.65. Tenacity is brittle. Displays piezoelectric properties under mechanical stress.

Optical Properties

Uniaxial positive optical character with a refractive index of 1.544 to 1.553 and low birefringence of 0.009. Shows no pleochroism in pure zones.
