Quartz Druzy
Quartz var. Rock Crystal Druzy · Mineral Specimen and Semi-Precious decorative stone

Crystal System
Trigonal, forming a druzy crust of micro-crystals on a matrix
Mineral Group
Silicates, specifically Tectosilicates
Chemical Formula
SiO2
Formation Process
Hydrothermal and low-temperature aqueous deposition where silica-rich fluids fill cavities and precipitate micro-crystals onto a host rock surface
About This Crystal
A small, irregular cluster featuring a sparkling coat of tiny, translucent to transparent quartz crystals (druzy) covering a pale, earthy matrix. The luster is distinctly vitreous to sugary, catching light across numerous micro-facets with an off-white to pale beige coloration.
Physical Characteristics
Color is white to pale yellowish-tan. White streak. No cleavage, conchoidal fracture. Specific gravity is approximately 2.65. Brittle tenacity. Hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
Optical Properties
Uniaxial positive with low birefringence (0.009). Singly or doubly refractive depending on crystallographic orientation. Vitreous luster with no notable pleochroism.
Hardness & Durability
Origin Region
Found globally; notable sources include Brazil, Arkansas USA, Madagascar, and India in hydrothermal veins and cavities
Hardness & Durability
Mohs hardness of 7. Good durability for general handling, though the delicate micro-crystals of a druzy crust can be easily abraded or broken if dropped or scrubbed aggressively.
Care & Maintenance
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and sudden extreme temperature shocks. Store separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratching other softer stones.
Rarity & Value
Common and widely accessible. Value depends on the matrix size, uniformity and sparkle of the druzy coating, and overall aesthetic appeal. Typically ranges from very affordable to moderately priced for exceptional collector specimens.
Special Characteristics
Sparkling druzy texture creating a sugar-like glittering surface effect. May exhibit weak phosphorescence or triboluminescence under specific conditions.
Lore & History
Historically viewed as a stone of pure light, clarity, and amplification. In modern metaphysical practices, quartz druzy is often associated with the crown chakra, believed to amplify energy, promote spiritual growth, and harmonize the aura, though these are traditional and spiritual beliefs without scientific validation.
