About This Crystal

Small, dark, rounded glassy specimen with a smooth yet pitted or sculpted surface texture. Exhibits a deep black color, sub-conchoidal to conchoidal fracture, and glassy luster typical of impact glasses.

Physical Characteristics

Color is deep black to dark brown with a white streak. Cleavage is none due to amorphous structure. Fracture is conchoidal. Specific gravity ranges from 2.3 to 3.0. Tenacity is brittle. Non-magnetic and non-fluorescent.

Optical Properties

Isotropic (singly refractive) due to amorphous glass structure. Refractive index ranges from approximately 1.48 to 1.52. No pleochroism or birefringence.
