Toast Fragment

Crystal System

Amorphous / Non-crystalline organic cellular structure

Mineral Group

Organic Carbohydrate Aggregate

Chemical Formula

C6H10O5 (Starch and Cellulose Matrix with Maillard Reaction Products)

Formation Process

Thermal dehydration and radiant heat-induced non-enzymatic browning (Maillard reaction)

About This Crystal

Small, quadrilateral fragment of toasted wheat bread featuring a golden-brown charred crust along the edge and a lighter, porous interior crumb structure with opaque translucency.

Physical Characteristics

Color ranges from off-white interior to golden brown and dark brown edges. Streak is white crumbly residue. Brittle tenacity, highly susceptible to crumbling under minor pressure. Specific gravity is very low, floatable in water.

Optical Properties

Non-reflective matte luster, opaque to light transmission, exhibits no special optical phenomena such as play of color or birefringence.

Hardness & Durability

Origin Region

Kitchen Toaster, Domestic Household Environments

Hardness & Durability

Mohs hardness approximately 1 for the soft interior crumb, and around 2 for the crisp toasted crust. Extremely low durability, breaks easily, highly sensitive to moisture and mechanical stress.

Care & Maintenance

Keep dry and away from humidity, moisture, and pests. Do not clean with liquids; store in a sealed container or consume immediately.

Rarity & Value

Common, frequently encountered in breakfast preparation. No monetary gemological value, though often emotionally valued when buttered.

Special Characteristics

May occasionally exhibit pareidolia-induced likenesses of historical figures or mythological entities on its surface due to irregular thermal browning.

Lore & History

Symbolic of the quintessential human morning routine and comfort food across various global cultures. Often associated with the metaphysical belief that if dropped, it will invariably land butter-side down.
