About This Crystal
The specimen is a carved, smooth, light-to-medium green gemstone showing a translucent to semi-translucent body with a characteristic glittering effect known as aventurescence, caused by included platy minerals such as green mica or fuchsite.
Physical Characteristics
Color is light to spring green with a white streak. It exhibits no true cleavage, breaking with a conchoidal to uneven fracture. Specific gravity ranges from 2.64 to 2.69. Tenacity is brittle.
Optical Properties
Singly or doubly refractive with a weak birefringence typical of quartz (0.009). Refractive index ranges from 1.544 to 1.553. Exhibits aventurescence, which is a metallic glitter caused by light reflecting off internal plate-like inclusions.
