About This Crystal
Small, tumbled, rounded cabochons or bead-like shapes with a warm honey-yellow and pale whitish-yellow coloration. They exhibit a translucent to transparent appearance with a resinous luster and smooth, polished surfaces typical of tumbled organic gemstones.
Physical Characteristics
Color ranges from pale yellow, white-yellow, to warm golden honey. Streak is white. Cleavage is none. Fracture is conchoidal. Specific gravity is very low, around 1.05 to 1.10, meaning it can float in saltwater. Tenacity is brittle. Can exhibit blue or green fluorescence under UV light depending on the source.
Optical Properties
Refractive index is approximately 1.54. Isotropic due to its amorphous structure. Exhibits no birefringence or pleochroism, but can display interesting internal inclusions such as trapped air bubbles or organic debris.

Clean only with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, alcohol, acetone, perfume, and harsh chemicals. Store separately in a soft pouch away from harder gemstones to prevent scratching.

Common to Uncommon depending on clarity, color, and presence of inclusions or fossils. Value increases significantly with rare insect inclusions, large sizes, or rare colors like blue and green. Treatments are rare for standard Baltic amber, though pressed or reconstituted amber exists.
