About This Crystal
This specimen exhibits a vibrant pale green to yellowish-green matrix of serpentine intergrown or banded with contrasting metallic or silvery grey to lilac patches, creating a distinctive mottled appearance. The luster is waxy to greasy on the serpentine portions and sub-metallic to pearly on the associated mineral veins.
Physical Characteristics
Color ranges from pale yellow-green to apple green with silvery-grey inclusions. Streak is white to pale green. Cleavage is perfect in one direction for serpentine minerals, fracture is uneven to splintery, specific gravity is approximately 2.5 to 2.6, tenacity is compact and tough.
Optical Properties
Biaxial negative for serpentine components with low birefringence. Generally translucent to opaque with no significant chatoyancy or play of color.
