Clear Quartz (Tumbled)

Quartz (Silicon Dioxide) · Semi-Precious Gemstone / Mineral Specimen

Clear Quartz (Tumbled)

Crystal System

Trigonal, presented here as a tumbled and polished pebble with a rounded habit

Mineral Group

Silicate, specifically a Tectosilicate

Chemical Formula

SiO2

Formation Process

Forms in a wide variety of geological environments, most commonly in igneous pegmatites, hydrothermal veins, and sedimentary deposits

About This Crystal

The specimen is a small, tumbled, and polished pebble of milky-to-clear quartz. It has a smooth, rounded surface with translucent to semi-translucent transparency and internal fracture lines reflecting light.

Physical Characteristics

Color is off-white to translucent clear with internal whitish fracture inclusions. White streak. Conchoidal fracture. Specific gravity is approximately 2.65. Brittle tenacity. No cleavage.

Optical Properties

Singly or doubly refractive with a uniaxial positive optical character. Refractive index ranges from 1.544 to 1.553. Vitreous luster on polished surfaces.

Hardness & Durability

Origin Region

Worldwide distribution; major sources include Brazil, Madagascar, United States, and the Alps

Hardness & Durability

Mohs hardness of 7. Good durability and wearability for jewelry, though internal fractures may create weak points under severe impact.

Care & Maintenance

Safe to clean with warm soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals and sudden extreme temperature changes. Can be stored with other quartz, but should be separated from softer stones.

Rarity & Value

Very common and widely available globally. Inexpensive in tumbled form, with value depending largely on size, clarity, and specific aesthetic features.

Special Characteristics

Displays internal fractures and subtle cloudiness characteristic of natural quartz. Exhibits piezoelectric properties under mechanical stress.

Lore & History

Often referred to as the 'Master Healer' in crystal healing traditions, associated with clarity, amplification, and all chakras. Historically used across many ancient cultures in talismans, tools, and decorative items.
