Zeolite with Celadonite (and Apophyllite/Stilbite)

Silicate group mineral assemblage featuring Celadonite and Zeolite species · Mineral Specimen / Rough Matrix

Zeolite with Celadonite (and Apophyllite/Stilbite)

Crystal System

Monoclinic (Celadonite) and Orthorhombic/Tetragonal (Zeolite inclusions/host)

Mineral Group

Silicates (Phyllosilicates and Tectosilicates)

Chemical Formula

K(Mg,Fe2+)(Fe3+,Al)Si4O10(OH)2 (Celadonite) with various hydrated aluminosilicates

Formation Process

Hydrothermal precipitation within volcanic basalt cavities (vesicles) and gas bubbles

About This Crystal

A rough volcanic matrix specimen featuring a distinctive dull, earthy green coating of Celadonite over crystalline Zeolite structures. Small white to translucent druzy sparkles indicate micro-crystals of Apophyllite or Quartz. The reverse side shows the reddish-brown weathered basaltic host rock.

Physical Characteristics

Color: Sage green to olive and reddish-brown; Streak: Light green or white; Luster: Pearly to earthy/dull; Transparency: Opaque to translucent; Specific Gravity: 2.1 - 2.8.

Optical Properties

Mostly opaque in mass; micro-crystals may show vitreous luster and weak birefringence; no significant dispersion or play of color.

Hardness & Durability

Origin Region

Deccan Traps, India (notably Jalgaon or Nasik regions)

Hardness & Durability

Mohs Scale 2 - 5.5; generally fragile and soft; low toughness; susceptible to scratching and crumbling.

Care & Maintenance

Clean only with dry soft brush or warm soapy water; avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals; store away from direct sunlight to prevent dehydration of zeolite minerals.

Rarity & Value

Common to abundant; low to moderate value depending on crystallization; primarily valued as a geographical representative specimen.

Special Characteristics

Features a 'green earth' pigment coating (Celadonite) over volcanic secondary minerals; may show subtle green fluorescence under shortwave UV if certain inclusions are present.

Lore & History

Historically used as 'Terra Verte' (Green Earth) pigment in European painting; traditionally associated with grounding, connection to nature, and heart chakra alignment in holistic practices.
