About This Crystal

A polished, tumbled smooth stone of vibrant translucent to opaque green color with characteristic glittering metallic speckles (aventurescence) caused by tiny plate-like inclusions of green mica (fuchsite).

Physical Characteristics

Color ranges from light to dark green with a white streak. It exhibits a conchoidal fracture, lacks distinct cleavage planes, has a specific gravity of approximately 2.65, and possesses a vitreous to greasy luster when polished.

Optical Properties

Singly or doubly refractive with a refractive index of roughly 1.544 to 1.553, showing weak birefringence and a distinct glittering or shimmering optical phenomenon known as aventurescence.

Hardness & Durability

Origin Region

India, Brazil, Russia, Austria, and Tanzania; found in metamorphic and igneous environments

Hardness & Durability

Mohs hardness of 7, making it durable and suitable for general jewelry use, though care should be taken against scratching softer materials or impact against harder gemstones.

Care & Maintenance

Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, and prolonged direct sunlight to preserve surface polish and color integrity.

Rarity & Value

Common and widely available, with affordable pricing primarily determined by the evenness of the green color and the density of the glittering fuchsite inclusions.

Special Characteristics

Aventurescence, which is a glittering effect caused by light reflecting off tiny included mineral platelets (fuchsite or hematite).

Lore & History

Historically used as an amulet for luck and prosperity. In modern crystal healing, Green Aventurine is traditionally associated with the Heart Chakra and is believed to promote emotional tranquility, optimism, and abundance.
